She paints her world into being with the same hands her foremothers used, every line a remembering. A Ndebele woman, graceful and unhurried, calls color into geometry the way her people have for generations. This piece is dedicated to Esther Mahlangu, the master who carried Ndebele art across the world without ever letting it leave home. Her people, a Bantu nation of Southern Africa, have always known that to paint a wall is to speak a language, and she taught the world to listen. To create like this is to inherit Africa, and to give her back to herself.
