Mursi | Peace Beyond War - Canvas

War and peace are not opposites in every tradition. Among the Mursi of Ethiopia, the warrior and the peacemaker can live in the same person, the same moment. This painting explores that duality, the stillness that exists at the center of conflict, the calm that a people carry even when the world around them is in chaos. It is a portrait of inner sovereignty, the kind that no external force can reach.

It is also about letting go. The weapon comes apart in his hands, released rather than raised. To lay down the fight, to free yourself of the combatant within, is its own kind of strength. The warrior and the peacemaker are not at war with each other here. They are becoming one by letting go.
