His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I stands at the front, regal and unbowed, with Empress Menen at his back, the two of them anchored in each other the way only a king and queen can be. Behind them rise two lions, a male and a female, watchful and proud, the four figures together forming the shape of Africa herself. This piece honors a rare and shining truth, that Ethiopia stood as the one African nation never claimed by colonial hands. Their resilience was not loud. It was rooted, ancient, and certain. To paint them is to honor the spirit of a people who knew, long before the world tried to tell them otherwise, that Africa was always meant to belong to her own.
